How to Make AI Do Actual Marketing Work for You

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” – Archimedes

Introduction

AI isn’t just for writing blog posts or playing with ChatGPT prompts. If used correctly, AI can take over large portions of your actual marketing workload: research, content creation, data analysis, reporting, and even campaign implementation.

This isn’t about AI replacing marketers. It’s about marketers getting 5x or 10x faster and better at doing what actually drives results. This article is your roadmap to using AI tools (like ChatGPT, Claude, and Make.com) as a core part of your marketing workflow.

In this post, you’ll learn how to:

  • Build detailed customer personas with ChatGPT

  • Generate ad copy and creative based on real data

  • Create and bulk-upload LinkedIn and Meta Ads campaigns

  • Review and clean up PPC search terms using AI

  • Map keywords to landing pages and prioritize SEO efforts

  • Use Zapier, Fathom, and AI to automate client reporting and task management

  • Spot business opportunities based on search data (like cowboy hard hats)

Whether or not you watched my SMBMadison talk, this post will walk you through everything I covered—with even more behind-the-scenes prompts, responses, and real results.

Delegating to AI Like a Pro

One of the most powerful ways to use ChatGPT and other AI marketing tools is to treat them like an assistant who needs clear direction. The more specific your delegation, the better the output.

Use this full framework to delegate tasks to AI:

✅ Information to Include When Delegating to AI (or Anyone)

  • Role and Skills Needed: "You're a B2B marketing expert who specializes in PPC and SEO."

  • What We’re Trying to Do: "Create a customer persona for our marketing agency."

  • Why: "We want to guide our ad and SEO strategy based on a realistic client profile."

  • What Done Looks Like: Name, photo, job title, goals, pain points, industry, keywords they’d search, and quotes.

  • Format: Paragraph or bullet point format, depending on task.

  • Completion Criteria: Clear, specific persona with enough detail to guide real-world decisions.

  • Example: "Marketing Mary – Director of Marketing at a $25M B2B manufacturing company..."

  • What We Want to Avoid: Vague, overly general personas or unrealistic job roles.

  • Inputs: Our website, keyword research spreadsheet, client list.

  • Context: We're a strategic agency doing SEO, PPC, and website builds.

  • Content/Data: Include target keywords and service pages.

  • Specific Feedback: If needed, say "revise to focus more on manufacturing vertical."

🧠 Real Prompt from ChatGPT Session:

You are a B2B marketing strategist. Create a realistic customer persona based on the following context:
- Our agency website is https://asymmetric.pro
- We do SEO, PPC, and website development
- Our clients are typically in B2B, senior living, and e-commerce
Include their name, job title, industry, team size, pain points, what they’re looking for in an agency, and 2-3 quotes they might say. Format this in bullet points.

📝 ChatGPT Response (Abbreviated):

  • Name: Marketing Mary

  • Job Title: Director of Marketing

  • Industry: B2B industrial manufacturing

  • Team Size: 2–3 marketers

  • Pain Points: Not enough in-house bandwidth, low ROI from current vendors, unclear attribution

  • Looking For: Strategy + execution, clear reporting, long-term partner

  • Quotes:

    • "We’re doing a lot, but I’m not sure it’s working."

    • "I need an agency that thinks beyond tactics."

Keyword to Page Mapping

Keyword research is only useful when it's tied to real action. You need to know which landing pages support which keywords, which ones are missing, and where you're competing with yourself. That makes this a high-value use case for AI content strategy.

🧠 Prompt:

You are an expert in PPC and SEO. Review this keyword list and the sitemap below. Add columns to indicate:
- Intent (Informational / Transactional)
- Topic Cluster
- Suggested URL
- Whether a page exists
- If we are cannibalizing ourselves (more than one page for the same keyword)

📊 Example Output:

Keyword Intent Cluster Suggested URL Exists? Cannibalization?
pink hard hat Transactional Product /products/pink-hard-hat No No
SEO for manufacturers Informational B2B SEO /services/seo-manufacturing Yes No
AI for marketing campaigns Informational AI in Marketing /blog/ai-marketing-campaigns No No

PPC Search Term Review and Negative Keywords

Manual review of search terms is time-consuming. AI can speed up this crucial optimization work so you can focus budget on high-intent keywords.

🧠 Prompt:

You are a PPC expert. Review the following search terms from our campaign. For each, say:
- Should we add a negative keyword?
- What should it be?
- Why?

🔍 ChatGPT Sample Output:

Search Term Add Negative? Suggested Negative Reason
sony domino coding machine Yes sony Irrelevant brand
best HVAC company near me No Relevant, high local intent
free logo maker Yes free DIY tool, not a buyer

Planning Campaigns with AI

Once we’ve defined the audience and done our keyword work, the next step is campaign planning. AI gives us a huge boost by ideating ad channels, assets, offers, and sequencing.

🧠 Prompt:

You're a demand gen strategist. Based on the persona Marketing Mary, suggest:
- The best paid channels
- Recommended content offer
- CTA messaging
- Funnel sequence (TOFU → BOFU)

🎯 ChatGPT Response:

  • Top Channels: LinkedIn Ads, Google Search, Email Nurture

  • Lead Magnet: “The B2B Marketing Strategy Playbook”

  • TOFU Message: “Tired of marketing that doesn’t show ROI?”

  • BOFU Message: “See how a real B2B firm tripled qualified leads in 90 days”

Writing Ads with AI

This is one of the most obvious AI marketing use cases—and it works.

🧠 Prompt:

Write 3 LinkedIn ads with headlines, body copy, and CTAs for Marketing Mary. Use the Playbook as a lead magnet.

✍️ ChatGPT Example:

  • Headline: “B2B Marketers: Get Strategy That Converts”

  • Copy: “If your inbox is full of tactics and no one owns results, we hear you. Download the Strategy Playbook to fix your funnel.”

  • CTA: Download Now

Creating Import Files for Ad Platforms

Instead of manually filling out CSVs or templates, we let AI do it.

🧠 Prompt:

Generate a CSV for LinkedIn Ads. Include: Campaign, Ad Group, Headline, Body, CTA, Final URL, Image Filename.

This saves hours when launching multi-variant campaigns. Combine this with keyword research and AI-generated copy for true AI campaign creation.

Zapier, Make.com & Automation Workflows

We use Make.com and Zapier to connect tools like Google Sheets, ClickUp, Slack, and Gmail. AI helps us plan and describe these workflows.

🧠 Prompt:

You're a marketing ops architect. Design a Make.com workflow that:
- Transcribes a Fathom meeting
- Extracts action items
- Adds them as tasks to ClickUp

Reporting: Looker Studio + Sheets + AI

Clients want insights, not just data dumps. AI helps us write real analysis based on Google Ads, Meta Ads, and GA4 exports.

🧠 Prompt:

Summarize this campaign performance:
- CTR, CPC, CPL trends
- Compare to previous period
- Note what worked, what didn’t

Bonus: Spotting the Business Opportunity

When reviewing keywords, AI flagged "pink hard hat" and "cowboy hard hat" as high-volume with low competition.

🧠 Prompt:

Write a TikTok ad script for a pink, OSHA-approved cowboy hard hat. Target: women in construction.

🎥 ChatGPT Script (Excerpt):

“POV: You walk on site in your pink cowboy hard hat and every dude’s like 👀… but it’s OSHA-certified and you're still the boss.”

Final Thoughts

AI isn’t just a gimmick. It’s a new kind of employee—one who doesn’t sleep and works at the speed of thought.

With the right structure and oversight, you can:

  • Get more done in less time

  • Generate better strategy and content

  • Eliminate busywork from your day

We’ve saved dozens of hours across keyword planning, persona development, ad creation, campaign launches, and client reporting. If you're a modern marketer, this is your new toolbox.
