Why weren't new customers finding Overhead Door Company of Madison on Google?

Overhead Door Company of Madison sells, installs, and repairs residential and commercial garage doors across the Madison area. It's a locally owned, authorized Overhead Door dealer that has served Madison since 1959, and it competes with several other local door companies for the same searches.

When the company started working with us in October 2024, it ranked in Google's top three for only 14 search terms. Most of the people finding the site already knew the company's name. That brings existing customers back, but it doesn't win new ones. The people who matter are searching "garage door repair Madison WI" or "fire rated garage door" before they've picked anyone to call.

How did we build up the site's search visibility?

We rebuilt the site's local search foundation and kept adding to it month after month.

  • Service and location pages: dedicated pages for commercial doors, residential doors, and the towns the company serves, including Madison, Sun Prairie, Middleton, DeForest, Waunakee, Windsor, and Lodi, so the site can rank for the places and services people search for.
  • Practical blog content: guides on fire-rated garage door requirements, steel gauges, and repairing versus replacing a door, written for homeowners and facility managers who are still deciding.
  • Product pages and search listings: refreshed galleries on all 108 product pages, and clearer titles and descriptions on the pages that show up in Google.
  • Links from other websites: steady work to earn links that tell Google other sites trust this one.

Local SEO for a service business means ranking for the searches a buyer makes before they've chosen a company. That's what turns a website from a business card into a source of new customers.

What were the results?

Measured in Ahrefs and Google Analytics, October 2024 to October 2026:

  • Estimated organic traffic roughly doubled, from about 430 visits a month to about 880 in September 2026.
  • Search now brings in most of the website's leads. In the first two weeks of October 2026, visitors from organic search accounted for 42 of the 49 calls and requests the website produced.
  • In that same stretch, search visits rose 14% over the two weeks before, taps on the phone number grew from 26 to 33, and service and repair requests grew from 3 to 8.
